Victoria Christopher Murray Co-Author of The Personal Librarian and The First LadiesVirtually since the country's inception, U.S. citizens have been told they are overdue for a national 'conversation about race' which somehow never seems to happen. In the meantime, and over a silence spanning centuries, racial atrocities continue to accumulate. This anthology speaks back to a nation's willful disavowal from the local level. In these pages, a remarkable collective of women confront difficult truths about how race is experienced in hopes of transcending our ongoing racial nightmare. With stories both intimate and resonant, these authors write to advance the dream of transracial democracy. P.J.
