Synopsis

This book is part of a year long project "Shachar" undertaken by the Epstein School of Atlanta, Georgia. Shachar means dawn, the beginning of a new day. The Shachar project is designed to study and celebrate the lives of Holocaust survivors since their liberation in 1945. Through personal interviews, middle school students composed these stories of perserverance, growth, and renewel. Each story is meant to illustrate the strength of character and personal fortitude necessary to survive great destruction and rebuild a life. By telling and retelling these stories we hope to share both the resiliency and accomplishments of these remarkable men and women.
