Where Students Turn First: Rethinking Peer Influence, Early Intervention, and the Architecture of School Support

Schools care deeply about their students.

Yet many systems designed to support them activate only after a problem becomes visible-through discipline, academic decline, or crisis.

What if the earliest signs of struggle are already being seen... just not by adults?

In Where Students Turn First, Robert Faghan draws on decades of clinical experience, personal recovery, and his work inside schools to explore a reality educators often sense but rarely structure around:

Students almost always notice when something is wrong with their peers before adults do.

Blending narrative, student perspective, and leadership insight, this book examines:

- Why early intervention often arrives too late

- How peer influence shapes student behavior and help-seeking

- The gap between student awareness and adult systems

- What schools can do to recognize and responsibly align with that reality

This is not a program manual.

It is a reframing.

For educators, counselors, and school leaders, Where Students Turn First offers a clear and compelling perspective on how schools might better understand where awareness begins-and how to respond before struggles become crises.
