The White Brother: An Occult Autobiography

Here is a personal story of “a student who sought and became the pupil of one deeply learned in the knowledge of the Divine Sciences”; a moving account of Juste’s journey through the jungle of falsehoods and half-truths in his search for Truth. Anarchism, atheism, socialism, spiritualism, theosophy—all these and more Juste investigates in the hope that they will supply a comprehensive philosophy of life, one which can answer the many perplexing questions that often vex thinking men and women. Along the way, he meets many weird and fantastic characters, culminating in the meeting of his own true Teacher, whose rare pearls of wisdom are scattered throughout. Included among the many topics discussed are: Theosophy, false teachers and teachings, vegetarianism, science, magic, art, initiation, health, meditation, and the Astral World.

About This Edition

This is the first time The White Brother has been reprinted since its initial publication in 1927. The Collected Writings of Michael Juste includes the definitive editions of all the author's published works, now printed for the first time in two uniform volumes.

Michael Juste was a pseudonym of Michael Houghton (1897-1961)--author; poet; playwright; founder of the Atlantis Bookshop in London; and editor of the Occult Observer, a short-lived quarterly journal that sought to provide its readers with a "clearer understanding of the deeper purposes of man and the cosmos"--which description is apt indeed regarding Juste's own writings: whether on politics, art, poetry, psychology, occultism, mysticism, or something else . . . entirely more fantastic. . . .
