This is borne out by the School Prize gift plate, dated 1894 on the front pastedown. DESCRIPTION:8vo. Red pictorial cloth boards with gilt, green and black in design to front and spine. (No DJ ever issued). Frontispiece, tissue guard, internal illustrations, 444pp. Rare edition (often these elaborate, gilded editions were designed especially for school or Sunday-school prizes). CONDITION: moderate wear to boards and spine; gift plate on front pastedown; light wear to prelims and tissue guard; internal pages generally clean; slight staining to edges and pink staining from boards seeped to lower outer corner of some pages. Binding good.
