Who Knows the Shape of God?: Homilies and Reflections for Year B (Contemporary Pastoral and Spiritual Books)

In this new collection of homilies, Fr. Corbin Eddy leads readers through the Sundays and feast days of Year B, the second year in the three-year liturgical cycle, which focuses on the Gospel of Mark. From the First Sunday of Advent to the Feast of Christ the King, Fr. Eddy explores the biblical texts and links them to everyday experiences and situations with sensitivity, grace and a deep understanding of the scriptures. The Gospel of Mark tells us that the "shape" of God is Jesus, and the shape of Jesus is the cruciform. Mark demonstrates that the first disciples had a hard time understanding this "cruciform messiah, this cruciform Son of God." In doing so, he draws readers of all generations into the story with the same question, the same challenge: Are YOU in shape to be a follower of Jesus? His comments are always fresh and focused, contemporary and yet timeless; his scholarship, solid and challenging. Each text captures the traditional sense of the homily as an "intimate conversation." Good homilies reach into the deep places in our lives. They use stories, images and metaphors to draw the community into communion with each other and with God. Who Knows the Shape of God? completes Fr. Eddy's three-part Breaking Open the Word series, for Years A, B and C. Once again, this volume is an excellent resource for priests preparing homilies, and for lay people with an interest in "breaking open the word" to a deeper understanding of God's action in their lives.
