Whole in One – A Guide to Playing Golf and Life in the Now is a book about utilizing an ancient breathing technique (and inquiry) to slow the mind and experience the flow (aka the zone) between shots during a round of golf.

The book utilizes both the mindset of the everyday golfer and the thought process of famous golf professionals during iconic rounds to illustrate how the renown golf professional, Butch Harmon’s words ring true: “In golf, the mind is a terrible thing.”

The book suggests, and cites leaders in the field of physical medicine, the importance of posture, breathing through the nose, and diaphragmic breathing. Once the reader learns how to breathe, the subtleties of the sound of the breath and how that sound takes you to the thoughtless state in the space between the breaths is discussed. It is in this thoughtless state that one becomes the witness of the thought, thereby disengages for a moment from the mind, and is free to play a game in the moment without the stress of held stories regarding the past and/or future. With practice, this methodology can be naturally accomplished in a few breaths between golf shots.

In order to mitigate the power of more traumatic thoughts or experiences, the book shares the power of the inquiry, “Who am I?” which mitigates the power of a thought and leads the questioner to the experience of silence.
