Why Can’t I Forgive? Forty Day Fair Forgiveness Devotional We all know that we should forgive. Jesus said so. He couldn’t be any clearer. But if the truth were known, we followers of Jesus really struggle with the concept. Recent scientific studies have observed that though Christians think that forgiveness is of critical import, we don’t have any more success at it that any other demographic. According to Dr. Senyard, one of our problems is that forgiveness is less a choice that we are supposed to make, and more a state that we are brought into as we access the redemptive power of God through the Holy Spirit in us. It turns out that I can’t naturally forgive. Forgiveness is a miracle. There are choices to be made of course, but the first is to admit that what I have been doing is more or less a failure and second to run to Him with open needy hands. Dr. Bill Senyard Pastor, lecturer and author, Dr. Bill Senyard, his wife Eunice live in the front range of the magnificent Rocky Mountains near Denver. He has pastored churches in British Columbia and Eastern Pennsylvania and is now the Pastor of Lookout Mountain Community Church (Golden, Co.). Dr. Senyard earned a Doctorate of Ministry at Biblical Theological Seminary (Hatfield, Pa.), a MDiv at Regent College (Vancouver, BC) after a 15 year business career.
