About the Author
Diamond Mike Watson is the CEO of Why Mom Deserves a Diamond, Inc., and the founder of Gallery of Diamonds jewelers in Newport Beach, California. He graduated with a business degree from Indiana University, and was a diamond merchant for an Indianapolis diamond company for ten years.
Watson is a member of the American Adoption Congress and is a Gemological of America trained gemologist. He is the co-president of the Gemological Institute of America Orange County Alumni and the author of Adopted Like Me- Chosen to Search for a Birthmother.
Watson was adopted into a family of loving parents who lived in the small town of New Albany, Indiana. Although curious about his birth origins, Watson learned that it is the person that gives love, nurture, and caring instruction that is one's true mother.
Watson wanted to give kids a chance to express their love and appreciation for their own mothers. He called a few schools and invited kids to write an essay entitled, Why Mom Deserves a Diamond. The winner would receive an unmounted diamond to give to their mother. No one knew it at the time, as Margaret Ketchersid presented the winning diamond to her mother on that beautiful Mother's Day morning of 1993, but the course of history would forever be changed in the way thousands of kids could honor their moms.
From its inception, the company's quest has been to make sure every child gets the chance to tell their moms how much they love them in the legendary, WHY MOM DESERVES A DIAMOND contest.
Every year, an average of twenty thousand letters are mailed to Why Mom Deserves a Diamond, Inc.
