Grade 4-7 Human physiology is explained through a gutsy question-and-short answer format. These 51 questions do not appear in isolation: the answer to one question often leads into the next question, and informative pen-and-ink diagrams and illustrations extend the answer still further. The authors assure readers that these body phenomena are normal and useful. The Answer Book About You by Elting and Wyler (Grosset, 1980) is also a question-and-answer book on human physiology for this age group. The advantages of the Settel/Baggett book are that every question is first listed in the contents, then repeated on the bottom of the pages that answer the questions; the questions posed are more interesting; the index is fuller (including references to illustrations); and the illustrations are informative rather than cute. Body Noises (Knopf, 1983) by Buxbaum and Gelman also answers questions about the human body in a chatty style, but it is much more limited in scope. Why I Cough, Sneeze, Shiver, Hiccup, & Yawn (Crowell, 1983) by Berger is aimed at a younger child.
