Why Philosophy Matters: Existence, Essence and Language

Philosophy is not difficult. We are. Besotted by our preferences and prejudices, we are prevented from easy access to philosophical truth. Over many decades, the author has watched students stumble over obstacles to their first attempt at philosophy. This book invites you to a clear and direct entrée as to why philosophy matters.

Get ready to encounter themes that are novel and challenging because, busy with day-in and day-out practical life, you have not paid attention to them before. Learn how philosophy demands the open-minded courage to challenge your attitudes, taken-for-granted opinions and feelings.

Central to philosophy is the matter of what makes us to be human. There is a history to this question. Some answers have been religious, some scientific, others philosophical.

Philosophy is at the center of the human condition.
