First American Editions, bound together. Compiles three mystery novels by Émile Gaboriau: "The Widow Lerouge," "File No. 113," and "Within an Inch of His Life." All three volumes were preceded by the French Editions published as "L'Affaire Lerouge," "Le Dossier No. 113," and "La Corde au cou," respectively. Gaboriau's fictional detective Monsieur Lecoq is considered to have been a major influence on Arthur Conan Doyle's creation of Sherlock Holmes. About Very Good but still soundly bound in contemporary quarter-leather, with rounded spine, red and blue marbled paper boards, and gilt titles and rule. Leather is moderately rubbed and worn, with foxing on the page edges and faint offsetting on the endpapers.
