About the Author

Lane Wallace, a regular columnist and the West Coast Editor for FLYING Magazine, is a nationally-known and respected aerospace writer and author. She learned to fly in 1986 after being inspired by a biplane flying by overhead, and her love affair with airplanes continues to this day. She owned a 1946 Cessna 120 for seven years and now owns a 1977 Grumman Cheetah.

In additionto her work at FLYING, Ms. Wallace has written three illustrated history books for NASA on the agency's efforts and accomplishments in aeronautics and space research. She also wrote and co-produced a three-part documentary series on the human adventure of flight research called "Test Flights: Beyond the Limits" that aired on The Learning Channel in August 1999.

Along the way, Ms. Wallace's work has earned her numerous citations and awards, including an honorary membership in the Air Force Society of Wild Weasels, a citation for Outstanding Contributions to Preserve General Aviation from the Torrance California Airport Association, and a 1994 Washington Edpress Silver Award for Excellence in Print.
