Item description from seller

Hardback quarto, dustjacket (flaps all sides), very good condition (in very good dustjacket), cream-coloured pages, top edge minimally foxed, minor edgewear. 68 pp. The first book of verse by an Australian-born poet, Charles Tompson Jnr, to be published in the colony in 1826. This facsimile edition in 1973 makes it available again for the first time since the original edition, and contains an introductory essay by G. A. Wilkes and G. A. Turnbull about Tompson's life and commentary on the poems. Tompson was of convict descent, and aged only 19 when the book was published. The Australian nationalistic flavour of the poems drew criticism by traditionalists as being disrespectful to the British crown.
