Wind Drawing

A good photographer keeps his viewfinder uncluttered and his pictures spare. A great photographer is able to introduce more and more elements into a picture without causing the image to collapse. Like a symphony conductor waving in first the strings then the horns then the drums.

Intae Kim weaves increasingly complex lines into these photographs, never losing sight of his basic melody of wind and sand and light. Although Intae Kim photographs all types of landscapes, he chose to create this book because to him the sand, "is the purest of all, nature presents the deepest, boldest and yet most delicate object for me to photograph." - Intae Kim

Mr. David Skolkin, responsible for designing many fine art books, designed Wind Drawing. The images were taken from Death Valley National Park, but this is not a book on Death Valley. It is about the sand dunes and the natural shape and contours of the desert, created by wind and light.

Intae Kim was born in Moonsan, Korea, in 1947, place and time at which Mother Nature seemed more radiant and magnanimous. Intae Kim has espoused her beauty since his young age, and his aspirations to capture it in his work grew stronger far beyond his technical training at Seorabul Art College in Seoul, Korea where he received his degree in photography in 1967.

His unwavering commitment to the goal of his life, to capture nature at its finest moments, has brought him global recognition. Intae Kim's work has been featured at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's "Landscape Photography After Ansel Adams: Selections from LACMA's Permanent Collection" (2003), and "Made in California: Art, Image, and Identity 1900-2000" (2000) exhibitions. His work has been exhibited on countless occasions in Seoul, Korea, and Tokyo, Japan, and in 1993 and 1995, he was featured in Graphis Photo of Switzerland. Intae Kim has received numerous awards, including recognition from the Royal Photography Society, in Great Britain, for his work featured in South Shield's 41st and 42nd Pictorial Photo International Exhibitions in 1981 and 1982.

He currently resides in Los Angeles, California, with his wife and two sons. Intae Kim's ambition to be in harmony with Mother Nature through his work frequently takes him to many U.S. National parks where he spends countless weeks looking for the perfect moment to seize her beauty and grandeur.
