Edward Martin became the first literary editor of 'Live Magazine' in 1883, and was the chief editorial writer at the magazine for fifty years. He graduated from Harvard, and was one of the founded of the Harvard Lampoon, an undergraduate humour publication. Other works of Martin include 'A Little Brother of the Rich, and other Poems', 'Reflections of a Beginning Husband', and 'Abroad with Jane'. Acquired from a sale of the publisher J.M Dent's reference library, with this work being a 'File Copy'. With 'File Copy' stamps to several leaves. Joseph Malaby Dent was a British book publisher best known for the Everyman's library series. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Markings to the boards, and fading and marking causing discolouration to the spine. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Front hinge starting but firm. Offsetting to the recto of the front endpaper, and to the verso of the rear endpaper. File copy stamp and pencil inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with just the odd spot. Very Good.
