Windham In The Past

Windham in the Past opens a door into everyday life in one small New England town across two centuries. The past feels close here. Samuel Thomas Dole gathers memory, record, and tradition into a vivid Maine town history that follows Windham from its colonial frontier beginnings into 19th century Windham, tracing how wilderness farms became a closely knit community. Blending narrative town chronicle with biographical sketches and genealogical notes on early settler families, this classic local history book serves both as an engaging story and as a dependable historical reference volume. It illuminates Windham Maine history within the wider patterns of colonial Maine history and New England local history, offering rich context for genealogy researchers tracing roots across the region. Family names, shifting boundaries, churches, schools, and civic life emerge in clear detail, making it an invaluable resource for local historians and a substantial Maine genealogy reference for serious study or quiet fireside browsing. Out of print for decades and now republished by Alpha Editions. Restored for today's and future generations. More than a reprint: a collector's item and a cultural treasure, this enduring study of Windham in the Past appeals equally to curious readers of New England genealogy and to book-lovers building lasting collections of classic town histories.
