A gentle, immersive way to continue learning Dutch through story.

By the Window: Bilingual Dutch-English Stories continues a unique 52-story language learning system designed for adult learners who want to acquire Dutch naturally through reading, not memorisation or grammar drills.

Return to the familiar Dutch neighbourhood where small routines begin to become meaningful. Through these simple stories, everyday places and familiar people gradually become part of a new life.

Built around a structured 52-story progressive learning method, this book contains four interconnected stories that gently increase in difficulty. Core vocabulary is recycled from the previous book while a small number of new words and expressions are introduced through context, repetition, and everyday situations.

In this A1 to A2 Foundations volume:

Present tense remains dominant

Sentences remain short, clear, and accessible

Everyday Dutch vocabulary is carefully recycled

New vocabulary is introduced gradually

Familiar characters, places, and routines provide natural repetition

Meaning is learned through context and story rather than grammar explanations

The result is a reading experience that feels less like studying Dutch and more like spending time in a real neighbourhood-watching people, sharing small moments, and slowly becoming part of everyday life.

Perfect for beginners, false beginners, and adult self-learners, these stories are designed to build confidence while developing natural Dutch reading fluency, one story at a time.
