On the Wings of a Butterfly Format: Paperback

Written to encourage communication about death and the acceptance of death as a normal part of life, this poignant, illustrated story follows the friendship of a young cancer patient and a caterpillar. As the girl shares her concerns, the caterpillar reciprocates by discussing its fears of the unknown and its forthcoming transformation into a monarch butterfly. This moving tale allows parents and educators to discuss death, dying, and the wonder of life with children in an accessible way.

Marilyn Maple, PhD, was a writer and producer of films and television for the University of Florida's Health Science Center, and cofounded the Arts in Medicine program at the University of Florida. Sandy Haight is an artist who teaches watercolor for illustration at Bellevue College. Her illustrations have appeared on numerous book covers. She lives in Seattle. Earl A. Grollman is a former rabbi of the Beth El Temple Center in Belmont, Massachusetts. A certified death educator and counselor, he is the author of Living When a Loved One Has Died, Straight Talk about Death for Teenagers, and Talking About Death. He has also appeared on national television and radio, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, All Things Considered, and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.
