The Winning Secrets of Football*s Great Offensive Attacks

A down-to-earth analyzation of all established offensive attacks from the rock-em, sock-em beginning of football to the sophisticated attacks of today. Each offensive system is critiqued in brief, broken down in detail, and thoroughly illustrated in full detail. The running and passing attacks that are unique to each of the offensive system are portrayed in a way that a coach can easily implement any one of them either on a full or part time basis.

Ken Lyons is a veteran football mentor who has persevered over a 35 year span. Now retired, Coach Lyons served as a high school head coach both in Mississippi and Louisiana, having enjoyed state play off experiences at semifinal, district, and district runner-up levels. Coach Lyons’ most notable achievements during the 1970’s took place at Franklinton High School and Salmen High School in Louisiana, and at Saint Stanislaus High School in Mississippi during the 1990’s. During the 1980’s Coach Lyons was a part of three consecutive LISA private school stat championships as offensive coordinator for Tommy Fernandez at Riverside Academy. Ken Lyons also has several Coach-of-the-Year honors to his credit. His first publication was the Complete Guide to Winning Slot-I Football in 1981 (Parker Publishing Company). Coach Lyons also is the author of the current Make the Most of Available Personnel with FOOTBALL’s MODERN FLEXING OFFENSE.

The publication of this manuscript culminates an obsessive quest that began near the conclusion of Ken Lyons’ senior year at Gulfport (Mississippi) High School, whose objective and purpose was to compile the intricacies of all offensive systems, reveal their inner workings, and project the best integrated version of an offense that could include the outstanding advantages of all proven offensive systems (such as the Flexing Offense). Coach Lyons has NOT undertaken this enormous task as a “master” of coaching, but, rather, as a COLLECTOR and CURATOR—one who gathers and preserves football’s technical archives.

To this end, The Winning Secrets of FOOTBALL’S GREAT OFFENSIVE ATTACKS is presented to preserve the offensive attacks that have been a part of the progression of football. This historical presentation should be helpful to the younger generation of offensive coaches who could benefit from the “secrets of success” that enabled the systems of yesteryear to dominate, all of which still remain powerful and useful, and to all defensive coaches who would like an analytical, outlined analogy of any successful offensive system that could be faced at any given time. This illustrated presentation should offer both educational and practical benefits to all practicing coaches and students of the game, and provide entertaining nostalgia for coaches and fans alike.
