The 20 chapters detail the First Wave -- from the Indian settlers through the Beyer Brothers' Spring Fountain Park and the huge success of the Chautauqua era. Then the Second Wave details when Winona Lake was known worldwide as the "world's largest Bible conference." And finally, the Third Wave--the takeover of all the assets and liabilities of the Winona Christian Assembly by Grace College & Seminary in 1968 and the forming of Winona Restoration Partners in 1994. Since then, more than $35 million has been poured into restoring the Village at Winona to be a charming artisan's colony lining the canal and containing art galleries, weavers, woodworkers, photographers, painters, world-class restaurants, and much more.
Later chapters detail specifics such as the history of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches which is headquartered in Winona. There's a chapter on "crimes and tragedies" and one on the worldwide impact of organizations that started in Winona and now reach out worldwide.
And finally, there's a walking tour--keyed to pages in the book that give architectural and historical details on each of the sites. Both the serious historic researcher and the casual reader will find something new--and something to like--in the pages of Winona at 100.
