Stated fourth printing of this volume in the 'American Guide Series', noted on the jacket as the Wisconsin Centennial Edition 1848 1948; first published in 1941. Begun as a project of the WPA during the depression to provide employment for idled writers, the American Guide series eventually covered all 48 states plus Alaska & Puerto Rico, as well as 40 cities. They continue to be regarded as important sources of cultural history & local pride. Hardcover in jacket, as pictured, full blue cloth, gilt titling. Book shows light wear, gilt bright, corners lightly rubbed; jacket torn with a few large chips, small holes, $3.50 price intact. Text clean; [30], 651 pages, b/w photos, maps (rather than a large folding map, this edition has the state sectioned, one section to a page, plus other maps; wood engravings by Frank Utpatel. Size: Octavo.
