The Wisdom of the Brain: Neuroscience for Helping Professionals

Neuroscience is an ever-expanding frontier. Researchers are constantly making discoveries about the connection between the physical brain and the mind.

Keeping abreast of this information can be overwhelming, but author Camaron J. Thomas, PhD, has come to your rescue with a book that is ideal for people working in the helping professions.

As a helping professional herself, Thomas understands how knowledge of neuroscience can assist readers in improving the care they provide to others—whether they’re employed in traditional fields such as psychology, social work, nursing, and teaching or nontraditional helping careers such as massage therapy, wellness work, or mind-body medicine.

In easy-to-understand, engaging language, The Wisdom of the Brain covers these essential topics and more:

• how the brain works and thoughts are formed
• the regions of the brain and how they work together to guide behavior and shape the personality
• how the brain learns and remembers
• the extent of unconscious influences and how/when consciousness comes into play
• how parenting shapes the biology of the brain
• the key role emotions play in thoughts and thinking and their relationship to reason
• how the brain is also social, what theory of mind is and how it develops
• how the brain reads other people and predicts the intention and meaning of their behavior

The Wisdom of the Brain will deepen your understanding of human nature, helping you become a more effective professional.
