About this Item
Wolfe and the Artists, A Study of His Portraiture; by J. Clarence Webster; copyright, Canada, 1930, by The Ryerson Press, Toronto. Of this edition of Wolfe and the Artists, A Study of his Portraiture, by J. Clarence Webster, M.D., F.R.S.C., five hundred copies have been printed, of which four hundred and seventy-five are for sale, number 424. From the foreword, Wolfe s undying fame has been an inspiration to artists throughout a period of nearly one hundred and seventy years, and there can be no doubt that no other military or naval celebrity of British birth had been so often depicted in paintings, engravings or plastic works of art. In this small volume I have endeavoured to present an analytical study of the best known of these, in the hope that it may be of interest to those for whom James Wolfe s brief, but brilliant career has a particular fascination. Shediac, N.B. Canada, May 1st, 130, J. C. Webster. This book contains 29 reproductions of paintings and illustrations, of which 2 are in colour and they have tissue guards. This slim volume of 74 pages bound in brown and black boards, is in near fine-condition in a near-fine dust jacket. A very attractive and rare book, indeed. Seller Inventory # 19117b
