Dr. Sylvia Gearing has been a pioneer in women's issues for almost twenty years. As a clinical psychologist, author, syndicated newspaper columnist and television medical correspondent, she has impacted the lives of millions. Her seminars for women routinely draw thousands of enthusiastic participants in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area where she has practiced since 1986.
Dr Gearing graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University and completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. For her post-doctoral work, she studied at the prestigious Masterson Institute in New York City for three years where she worked with the internationally renowned psychiatrist, Dr. James Masterson. In her clinical practice and all the many leadership positions she held in a child guidance agency and in a private psychiatric hospital, Dr. Gearing made many of her discoveries in women's issues that have brought her national acclaim.
In 1994, her first book, FEMALE EXECUTIVE STRESS SYNDROME: THE WORKING WOMAN'S GUIDE TO A BALANCED AND SUCCESSFUL LIFE, launched her national media career. Her first appearance on "The Phil Donahue Show" in 1995 led to working on other national shows including "Sally Jessy Raphael", "Geraldo", and NBC's "Today Show" where she appeared from 1997 to 1998. In 1998, she began appearing regularly on CBS Channel 11's popular talk show, "Positively Texas." Since 2000, she has been the Medical Correspondent in Psychology on the four o'clock news broadcast for CBS Channel 11. Dr. Gearing's work has been featured in BRIDE MAGAZINE, McCALL'S, EXECUTIVE FEMALE, WEIGHT WATCHER'S MAGAZINE and on countless radio and television shows across the country.
Dr. Gearing has been married to Dr. Milton Gearing for over twenty years. The Gearings have two teenaged sons.
