Synopsis
Excerpt from The Woman's Medical Companion and Guide to Health
The author, having had a practical experience, extending over a period of nearly thirty years, in the study and treatment of the Diseases of Women and Children, in St. Bartholomew's and Guys Hospitals, of London, and subsequently, both as Physician and Lecturer. in the Public and Municipal Institutions of New York City, has been brought into contact and practical acquaintance with every phase of disease to which women and children are especially liable, whether in the crowded cities or in the suburban districts. It is his purpose, therefore, in the "Woman's Medical Companion and Guide to Health," to give young women, wives, and mothers the benefit of that varied experience; and, by the facts and principles brought to bear upon the daily life in the home, the nursery, the sick-room, and the factory or work-room, to afford them the means of preventing, as well as ameliorating and averting, many of the ills to which flesh is heir. The advice, observations, and directions as to symptomatology, treatment, hygiene, diet, regimen, etc., are deduced from a lifelong experience, and a careful and critical analysis of the scientific researches of the most eminent authorities on matters relating to the public health.
