This book, an English translation of a Dutch book entitled Baren , is a study of natural childbirth techniques. Several enthralling interviews with actual couples who experienced childbirth are included, as is information on conventional birthing techniques, parent/child bonding, home deliveries, use of midwives, parental care, water births, and complications during delivery. The technique of vertical delivery is also discussed. Full-color explicit photos of the birth process complement the text. This book will be a useful teaching aid in childbirth education, giving women a European look at the childbirth process. As a teaching tool, however, it would have been even more useful if it had also included some non-European perspectives on childbirth. For biomedical collections.
