The Women of Torque: : (The Force History Chose to Forget)

History is often incomplete, shaped by the perspectives and priorities of those who recorded it. In this process, many stories have been overlooked or forgotten-especially those of women. Indian women, in particular, have played significant roles across different eras, yet their contributions have not always been given due recognition. This book is an attempt to bring these narratives to light, offering a broader and more balanced understanding of the past. From ancient civilizations to the modern world, women have been philosophers, leaders, warriors, and innovators. While some aspects of history highlight challenges like sati, dowry, and social restrictions, there also exist accounts of Vedic scholars, medieval rulers, and reformers who influenced the course of history in profound ways. By exploring both the struggles and the achievements, this book aims to present a comprehensive view of women's place in Indian history.Through eighteen chapters, this book will take you on a journey across time-from the early societies and the Vedic period to the women of medieval India, from the reformers and revolutionaries of the colonial era to the changemakers of modern times. It is not an attempt to rewrite history but to bring forth stories that have long remained in the background. This is a study of the women of torque-those whose strength and influence helped shape the world, even when history chose to forget them.
