A collection of twenty-one stories which portray the diversity, conditions, concerns, and support of women's friendships

These 20 stories have been carefully selected to illustrate a diversity of women writers as well as to reveal various aspects of friendships between women, including duration, food, age, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. Arranged chronologically from Lydia Maria Child's "The Neighbor-in-Law" (1846) through Madelyn Arnold's "Let Me See" (1991), the stories include old favorites and new discoveries. Koppelman's introduction and afterword, substantial headnotes by various English professors placing the works in a biographical context, and a bibliography add to the scholarliness of this volume, the seventh in Koppelman's series of women's short fiction anthologies.
