W.H.D.A. [William Henry Davenport Adams]. Wonders of the vegetable world. London: T. Nelson and Sons, 1869. Hardback, Good. Blue cloth boards with blind embossed decoration to front and back, gilt lettering and decoration to spine. Boards are bumped to corners and top/base of apine, sunned to spine, with numerous small marks and stains and two small vertical scratches through the cloth on the front. Binding good, but front gutter starting to separate. Frontispiece b/w illustration and illustrated title page. 127pp., decorations and b/w illustrations. Contents clean and bright. Mild dust-staining to top edge of page block. William Henry Davenport Adams (1828 1891), was an English writer and journalist. He supervised a new edition of Mackenzie's National Cyclopedia, and did a large amount of reading and writing for Messrs. Black (for whom he wrote Guides to Kent and Surrey), for Blackie & Son of Glasgow, and Nelson & Sons, Edinburgh. In 1870, he founded the Scottish Guardian, which he edited down to 1878, and subsequently he projected and edited a series of volumes called The Whitefriars Library of Wit and Humour.
