Wool, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

Learn how wool travels from farm to fabric and why clean, well‑sorted wool matters to every stitch.

This edition surveys the wool trade, from the sheep on moorlands to the mills that turn fleece into cloth. It covers how wool is classified, cleaned, packed, and sold, and explains the real costs and risks that affect price and quality. You’ll see how war, trade rules, and packing methods shape what arrives at the factory door, as well as the practical work of the people who sort, measure, and manage the raw material.

What you’ll discover:

• How wool is graded, sorted, and prepared for manufacturers, and why this matters for yarn and fabric quality.
• Different packaging and packing challenges, including attempts to replace jute with paper packs.
• How historical markets and wartime demand influenced wool prices and trade flows.
• The washing and cleansing process, from scouring to cards, and why some grease is kept for manufacturing needs.

Ideal for readers curious about the textile industry, its history, and the hidden steps that turn raw wool into everyday fabrics.
