As the Programme Leader for the innovative Negotiated Learning Scheme at Teesside University she championed work-based learning, resulting in the University becoming one of the forerunners in the UK sector in business engagement activities.

Ruth is also the editor of, Facilitating Work-Based Learning: a handbook for tutors (Palgrave, 2015) and Editor in Chief of the Emerald peer-reviewed journal Higher Education Skills and Work-Based Learning.
