Large 4to. Illustrated throughout with full page and half page colour and b/w illustrations. Lund Humphries, 1961. Illustrated boards. Very good in slightly tanned and torn original acetate wrapper. LOOSELY INSERTED IS A TYPED LETTER SIGNED FROM SUTHERLAND dated 21st March, 1960 from West Malling. Sutherland writes to his correspondent, Kerrison Preston, that while his book[this book] has been a long time in production, it should be out in 1960 (in fact it did not appear until December 1961). THERE ARE ALSO TWO TYPED LETTERS from Lund Humphries to the same correspondent apologising profusely for continued delays in the production of the book. There are also numerous colour illustrated newscuttings loosely inserted. Finally there is a signed Christmas Card, with a colour reproduction of a work by Sutherland, sent from Sir Humphrey Prideaux-Brunes to Kerrison Preston, from whose library this volume was extricated and offered for sale. A most interesting copy with plenty of association. [Kerrison Preston was a well known art collector who had several Sutherland originals in his collection, one of which he lent to The Institute of Contemporary Art in 1954 for an exhibition which was held in America. Included in the bundle offered here there is a typed letter from James S.Plaut, Director of the ICA to Kerrison Preston, thanking him for the loan of the painting and trusting it had been returned safely.].
