Work Them to Life

The talent war escalates every year, and as leaders in all industries scramble for advantages, they continue to overlook the most effective weapon in their arsenal: their office space. Dozens of books have shown you how to retool your recruiting strategies and cultural practices. But if everyone's doing it, then there's no real advantage. There has to be another way to turn the tide of this war.

The best and brightest businesses in the world (companies like Apple, Google, Nike, McDonald's, and Aetna) are already showing us the way. They're moving to office spaces with the Wow Factor--dynamic spaces that not only attract the most talented people, but also spark motivation, innovation, happiness, and loyalty for years to come. Their recruiting and productivity have benefitted as a result, but more importantly, so have their profits.

Here's the best part: you don't have to be a big company to enjoy this advantage, and you don't have to be a technology company either. We're still on the cutting edge of this movement. No matter what size or industry your business is in, if you're currently occupying a mediocre, outdated space, then you can be among the first wave in your market to benefit from the awesome power of working your employees to life. This book will guide you on your way.

Jim Scalo is not a PhD. He isn't an educator or a theorist either. He's a business leader. He has to hire, fire, train, retain, build real teams, and make real money, and he's done all of these things for almost three decades as the leader of Burns Scalo Real Estate in Pittsburgh, PA. Having started in a dumpy old office and grown his company into a premium space, he has seen the truths contained in this book firsthand. Jim can be reached at jscalo@burnsscalo.com.
