Work and Wages, Vol. 2: In Continuation of Lord Brassey*s "Work and Wages" And "Foreign Work and English Wages"; Wages and Employment (Classic Reprint)

Wages and Employment, Volume II explores how wages, pensions, and industrial rules shape workers’ lives across nations.

This edition pulls together studies of old-age pensions, workmen’s insurance, and boards of conciliation to show how policy and practice meet real-world labor needs.

The content frame ranges from German social insurance programs to New Zealand’s industrial peace experiments, and it weighs the promises and limits of government-led wage regulation. Readers will see how different systems address risk, support workers, and influence employer decisions.

• Insights into old-age pensions, infirmity benefits, and the funding structures that support them
• Analysis of the German scheme of workmen’s insurance and how it classes injuries and disability
• Discussion of conciliation boards, their impact on speed, costs, and trust in the arbitration process
• Comparative look at labor conditions, wages, and economic contexts in New Zealand and the United Kingdom

Ideal for readers interested in early 20th‑century labor policy, wage systems, and the social foundations of work.
