Working Memory

Working Memory provides a comprehensive examination of the neural basis of working memory, defined as the cognitive ability to maintain information over short periods. This volume addresses the need for an accessible, yet thorough resource that bridges cognitive psychology and neuroscience, focusing on how neuronal activity in the cerebral cortex underpins memory processes. It is primarily designed for undergraduate and early graduate students in neuroscience, psychology, and related fields such as cognitive science and biomedical engineering. Topics covered include brain anatomy, organization, neurophysiology, and neuroimaging techniques, all contextualized within the study of working memory.

• Explains working memory through neural activity and brain physiology
• Reviews brain anatomy and organization for diverse student backgrounds
• Highlights research from diverse scientists to promote inclusion
• Integrates neuroimaging and neurophysiology principles with cognitive psychology

Dr. Christos Constantinidis is currently the Associate Director of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute. His research interests include understanding how neuronal activity in the cerebral cortex gives rise to cognitive functions. His work focuses primarily on non-human primate models, but we aim to translate knowledge gained from these experiments for the benefit of human conditions in which cognitive functions have been compromised.
