Good clean copy in original leather binding (possible repaired spine in keeping with the boards) with seven large foldout copper plate engravings in excellent condition. The works of Alexander Monro collected edited by his son into a very informative and nicely presented volume. This volume was originally in the Medical Library of Salop Infirmary, July 20, 1781 (bookplate). Portrait of Monro is missing, no indications of any such page ever present. Alexander Monro (1697 – 1767), anatomist, became Professor of Anatomy at the University of Edinburgh in 1720. He was the founder of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and established Edinburgh as a major center of medical teaching and research. He was succeeded in the Chair of Anatomy by his son (1733-1817, author-compiler of this book) and grandson (who shared the same name) a lineage that spanned 128 years.
