Mixed edition of this early set of Pope's Works that appeared in piecemeal fashion under varying imprints owing to the vagaries of copyright and the complex arrangments among Pope's numerous publishers. The first volume contains dedicatory poems paying tribute to Pope by Wycherley, Parnell, Lyttleton, and others. Calligraphic bookplate of William Peacock in each volume; first blank leaf in Volume 1 pulled nearly free of the binding; upper margins of two preliminary leaves in volume 2 torn off with no loss of text; general light soil; ownership signatures; covers rubbed with hinges that are tender but intact.
