Each volume in green full-cloth boards, gilt decorated spine, gilt titles, shelf and corner wear. The spine features titles and volume number in Roman numerals, an image for The Raven, and The Bells. Pages tanned with some foxing. Each volume comes with an illustrated frontispiece on a smooth coated plate; several are paintings or drawings depicting scenes, others are portraits of Poe, associated famous authors, and Poe's home. Volume I, II, III, and IV contain Tales from Poe featuring a compilation of all Poe's prose and poetry. Volume V, VI, VII, VIII titled 'Miscellaneous' and contains compositions and essays from Poe on authors such as Charles Dickens, Thomas Hood, and on varied topics including writing and other fascinations such as Philosopy of Composition, Cryptography, Old English Tales, Mystification, The Angel of the Odd, etc. Volume IX contains the Narrative of A. Gordon Pym. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles and decoration (Raven and Bells) to the spine, gentle folding to the top and base, creasing and wear to the top and base of each volume, gilt work on Vol IV worn and faded. Joints good condition sound, worn, some white marks. Corners good condition bumped and worn. Boards good condition green cloth boards, some marks. Page edges good condition top edge darkened, fore and bottom edges tanned and some foxing. See above and photos. Internally Hinges good condition front hinge of Vol I cracked with webbing showing, all other hinges sound, some straining internally where the books has been pressed open. Paste downs good condition plain, tanned with some foxing. End papers good condition plain, tanned, with some minor foxing. Title good condition lightly tanned and foxed, title page to Vol V torn with a small V loss to the top of the title not impacting the text, title page of Vol II with some adherence to the frontispiece.
