Green cloth on boards with gilt decoration and lettering to front board and spine. Light bumping to extremities. Top edges of pages are gilt. Pages are hand cut with the inevitable spotting at the edges. An uncommon full five volume set of this edition, translated by Sir Thomas Urquhart and Peter Motteux, with the notes of Duchat, Ozell, and others. With an introduction and revision by Alfred Wallis. Volumes I and II are attributed to 'Alcofribas', a pseudonym taken by Rabelais, which, together with the name Nasier, comes from an anagram of Francois Rabelais. The following volumes were attributed to Rabelais. Illustrated with black and white, tissue protected plates, taken from the 1741 Picart's edition.

Store description
I am a small Independent Bookseller with 35 years experience. My main field of interest is Social Military and Maritime History and Mountaineering although I am always on the lookout for the strange and unusual. I have been a member of Abebooks for many years but due to ill health have not been part of the market place for some time. I do however buy from Abebooks on a regular basis on behalf of Bookpoint in Dunoon. I have always been well known for my accurate descriptions and prompt delivery service. If anyone is looking for Maritime or Scottish History please do not hesitate to contact me.…
