xiv, 220 pp. (includes 20 plates), 4to, quarter crimson morocco, gilt title on spine, crimson linen cloth sides. English poet John Chalkhill (c. 1595-1642) was the writer of two fishing songs that appear in Izaak Walton's Compleat Angler (Walton also authored the preface to Chalkhill's 3,000-line pastoral poem Thealma and Clearchus [1683]). This volume includes a study of Chalkhill - the man, the poet, and his work, as well as texts of his works. Elegantly designed by Ron Gordon at The Oliphant Press. Presented and dedicated by Charles Ryskamp, the long-time director of the Frick Collection and the Pierpont Morgan Library, to the members of the Roxburghe Club. This copy with a warm inscription from Ryskamp to fellow Roxburghe Club member Jayne Wrightsman, and also with her bookplate. Fine copy. Barker 264.
