In good condition, with superficial rubbing and peeling to leather on exterior. Staining remnants to cover and spine, with minor penetration to perimeter of pages at front and rear. Hinges remain in good condition and text block remains bound well. Light markings and marginalia, including an inscription from Elizabeth Canby on the title page. Includes list of books available by the publisher at rear. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece on the life and works of John Woolman (1720-1772), a Quaker merchant, preacher, and prominent early abolitionist, with much of the text dedicated to his views on slavery. Acquired by Elizabeth Canby in Attleborough, Bucks County in 1810. This Elizabeth is believed to have been the wife of John Canby (1781-1858), a Delaware businessman and early supporter of Southwest Pennsylvania railroad development, some of which would develop into the Main Line.
