[Signed Binding]. Complete in 17 volumes. Three quarter brown polished calf over marbled boards, raised bands, red and green morocco title labels, top edges gilt, marbled endpapers, silk pagemarkers, (7 x 4.5 inches). SIGNED bindings by Root & Son, London. Tissue-protected engraved frontis and title-pages by E. Finden preceding the printed title-pages (engraved title pages dated 1833). Set includes six volumes of a Life and Letters of Byron by Thomas Moore and eleven volumes of Byron's poetry, including Don Juan in three volumes. Provenance: each volume with the bookplate of Henry Chisholm (1822-1881), the 19th century Cleveland industialist. Shows some light exterior wear and chipping, internally clean and tight. A complete set as originally issued. 12mo, 6 3/4" x 4 1/2", three-quarter burgundy leather over marbled boards; about 350 pages each, 5 banded spines, marbled endpapers, double engraved title page as well as typeset title page. This set was originally envisaged as 14 volumes but later expanded to seventeen with the inclusion of Don Juan. A very good set overall, but the exteriors are rubbed at all edges, slight scuffing at the spine, bindings tight, paper light to moderately yellowed with a previous owner's bookplate on the front end paper of each volume.
