Seller: Reve Bookseller, Sarasota, FL, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. Listing Description; The Works of Lord Byron: In Verse and Prose; including His Letters, Journals, etc., with a Sketch of His Life. Published: Hartford: Silas Andrus & Son, 1849 Pages: Complete Binding: Full leather (modern professional rebinding) A handsome and solid example of this early American collected edition of Byron's works, containing poetry, letters, journals, and biographical material. Includes engraved frontispiece portraits (Lord Byron and Lady Noel Byron). This is the original 1849 text block, expertly rebound in full leather in recent years, preserving the historical content while making the volume sturdy and ready for another century of use. Binding / Condition Modern full leather binding, smooth boards, hand-dyed finish. Spine label in period style. Interior pages show expected toning and scattered foxing typical of mid-19th century paper. Plates and title pages intact. No loose pages; solid, tight binding. About the Rebinding: This volume originally had a 19th-century cloth or leather binding, now replaced with a high-quality custom leather covering. The endpapers, text block edges, and sewing style confirm a later rebinding. Rebinding stabilizes and preserves rare works whose original covers were beyond salvage ? ideal for collectors who want Byron's works in a display-ready format. Provenance / Notes Published only 25 years after Byron's death. Early American printings of Byron are increasingly scarce in collectible condition. Silas Andrus & Son printings are sought after for their typography and early American bookmaking history. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thank you so much. Seller: Mountain Books, Kent, CT, U.S.A.
Cloth. Condition: Good Plus. Engravings (illustrator). This is a large book, 627 pages, it has a wide selection of Byron's works inside. It is an interesting looking book, light purple raised cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. There are two frontis pieces (engravings) and many other engravings inside. The binding is tight, book straight. The exterior has light soiling overall, it has a small hole in the lower spine (small--it doesn't distract from the book) Light fading to covers and spine. Inside is moderate foxing throughout, some light stains due to age tonning. The previous owner signed and inscribed, as well as took a number of pages (all the blank pages at the end of the book) and wrote in cursive many notes in pencil. This is actually fascinating and adds to the allure of the overall work of Byron's verse (in my opinion). Email us for a picture, we ship fast. Size: Over Sized. Seller Inventory # 004275
