The Works of Miss Thackeray: Miss Angel ; And, Fulham Lawn

The Works Of Miss Thackeray: Miss Angel ; And, Fulham Lawn by Anne Thackeray Ritchie. This two-part Victorian narrative surveys art, fame, and social life through the intertwined stories of two women bound to the world of painting and society. MISS ANGEL follows Angelica Kauffmann's ascent from provincial poverty to international recognition, examining the pressures of patronage, the temptations of admiration, and the tensions between art and love. Across Venice's gilded studios, grand gondolas, and London drawing rooms, she navigates confidences, rivalries, and a dramatic romance with Count de Horn, tempered by friendship with Antonio and the mentorship of Reynolds. The second part, FULHAM LAWN, sketches Isabella and other figures at a suburban London circle, tracing the costs and consolations of ambition, romance, and creative vocation in a more modern setting. Together, the pieces explore female creativity, social codes, fidelity, deception, and resilience, presenting a nuanced portrait of art and life in the 18th and 19th centuries.
