First edition, paperback original. Very good with creases to the spine, mild foxing, and other light wear. The first in the series, with early versions of works by Edwin O'Connor, David Boyer, John le Carré, Wilfrid Sheed, Muriel Rukeyser, Nelson Algren, Bernard Kaplan, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Joanna Ostrow, Thomas Wolfe, James Purdy, Donald Marsh, Thomas Berger, John Keeble, Irvin Faust, Stanley Elkin, Roderick Thorp, and Robert Blake. Le Carré's entry is a 20 page "character sketch" he wrote for the film adaptation of *A Small Town in Germany*.
