This is a beautifully illustrated copy of "The Works of Rabelais" - Faithfully Translated from the French, with Variorum Notes, and Numerous Illustrations by GUSTAVE DORE (including 20 additional new illustrations). Circa 1920's (there is no date of publication stated). Privately printed. Condition: Small, light stain at the bottom of the front cover. The lettering on the spine has faded. There is a thin, vertical strip along the center of the back cover where the cloth has creased. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. The title page has dates and "trans. by Urquhart" written in pen; 28 pages were found that have markings in pen, such as a line in the outer margin, a small notation, a check-mark, and an arrow. Pages 254-257, and the illustrated page in between, each have a small piece missing at the top edge. Some pages at the back are still attached along the top or bottom edge. Surname written in pen at the top of the front end paper. Overall the book is in Good- condition.
