Contains numerous steel engravings by notable Victorian artists, including C. W. Cope, W. P. Frith, and D. Maclise.

Condition: Retains an attractive period patina and shows age-related wear consistent with its antiquity. Water staining and tide marks are present on some pages (see photographs). The text pages and engraved plates appear complete. The original bindings and spines show wear, rubbing, fraying, and areas of loss consistent with age and use (see photographs). Overall a sound and complete nineteenth-century illustrated set.

Large-format Victorian edition of the complete works of William Shakespeare, edited by Charles Knight and extensively illustrated with numerous steel engravings by prominent nineteenth-century artists and engravers.

Complete in two volumes. Bound in the publisher's original decorative red cloth bindings with gilt and black stamped decoration to the covers and spines. An attractive and substantial Victorian Shakespeare edition produced as a deluxe illustrated set.

The bindings show age-related wear, rubbing, bumping to corners, and loss to portions of the spine covering on one volume. Hinges and joints show wear consistent with age. Internally generally sound, with scattered foxing, age toning, and water staining affecting some leaves. Several engraved plates are present and remain attractive, with good detail and contrast.

A desirable nineteenth-century illustrated Shakespeare edition, notable for its large format, decorative publisher's bindings, and extensive series of steel-engraved plates.

Condition: Good. Complete two-volume set. Binding worn with rubbing, spine damage, and signs of age. Interiors generally sound with scattered foxing, staining, and age toning. Please see photographs for details.
