The Works of Thomas Moore features a collection of his political verse, satirical drama, and social commentary. This edition includes "Corruption and Intolerance" (two poems), "The Sceptic," a philosophical satire, "A Letter to the Roman Catholics of Dublin," and "M. P.; Or, The Blue-Stocking," a comic opera. Accompanied by prefaces, appendices, and notes, the volume delves into Moore’s critique of revolution, liberty, church-state relations, and Irish affairs. It intertwines patriotic and political themes with lyrical poetry and dramatic satire, illuminating issues of corruption, intolerance, and the balance between authority and liberty. Through its supplementary materials, Moore's philosophy of liberty, reform, and toleration is advanced, while his verses critique prerogative, bribery, and the effects of empire on Ireland, embodying early 19th-century Irish-English satire and political poetry.
