About this Item

Nine volumes of collectible twelve volume set, attractive leather bindings with marbled boards and page blocks. Initially issued by Riverside in 1877, this pressing dates from 1880. Books are condition marked "good", but are intact and attractive with bright gilt, internally unmarked. Some general wear to corners and extremities across the volumes, particularly to boards at fore-edge and lower edge. Bindings are generally tight, with exception to the front free endpaper of some volumes, which is becoming slightly loose (but still held by binding). Bump to head of spine of volume V. Present volumes as follows: II-Autobiographic Sketches, III-Literary Reminiscences from The Autobiography of an English Opium-Eater, IV-Literary Criticism, V-The Eighteenth Century in Scholarship and Literature, VI-Biographical & Historical Essays, VIII-Essays on Christianity, Paganism, and Superstition, IX-Essays in Philosophy, X-Politics and Political Economy, XII-Narrative and Miscellaneous Papers.
